Is a permit required for the bottom-up Zion Narrows hike?
No. The popular bottom-up route starting at the Temple of Sinawava (Riverside Walk) does not require a permit — it is free and open to all. This overnight top-down permit is only required for trips entering from Chamberlain Ranch.
When is the best time for the top-down Zion Narrows?
Late spring (May–June) offers higher water and dramatic flow; fall is cooler with lower water levels. Always check flash flood forecasts — the canyon should not be entered when significant rain is forecast anywhere in the watershed.
